ElanBULANCE Molds

PostPost by: JonnyPlus2 » Tue May 06, 2014 4:27 pm

Hi All;

Does anyone have or know the whereabouts of molds for the Elanbulance ? I'm hoping that they're around somewhere or that someone has made molds off one of the originals. Since I'm planning to use my Elan as a daily driver I wouldn't mind having room for things a guy could use, like guitars, amps, kegs of beer etc, you know, the necessities of life. Thanks.

Regards,

'Fraid you are out of luck. Only 2 were ever made. They were one-offs - or I should say two-offs - by Hexagon of Highgate.

One of the two road tests is available on my web site. See http://www.lotuselansprint.com/index.asp?pageid=41833

Jon,
The rear of a mk 1 escort estate looks very similar to the Elanbulance, the glass is certainly very similar. Perhaps it was the inspiration if not exactly the donor.

Have a google to see what I mean. Making the panels needed to stretch and cut and shut the body doesn't look impossible to me, given time, thought and a little money you could easily ruin a perfectly good classic sports car :mrgreen:

There's some good reasons Hexagon only made 2, one was the huge extra cost, another was that it actually didn't make the car all that practical adding very little real extra room in the back, and perhaps the most important in that it didn't win any prizes in the beauty stakes.

The +2 shooting brake works a bit better in practicality and looks more suited in estate format, still an acquired taste though.

Good luck, don't let me put you off, it's your car......
Kindest regards

Hi Alan,

Thanks for not putting me off. :)

I think that if the molds were available, and I was in England I would consider it seriously. As it is, it's just a notion. If what I really want is a 2002 BMW M Coupe (aka Clown shoe) I should flog my Elan and get one rather than trying to turn the Elan into what it's not.

Best,
Jon

Not a lot of room for crates of beer/wine once your clubs are in there too!
