Lotus Elan and Lotus Elan Plus 2 Forums

Hi is the Elan Sprint windscreen unique or is it a triumph herald, spitfire, GT6 etc I have looked in the Elan book of alternative sources for parts but the windscreen is not mentioned.

The reason for asking is that I will need a new windscreen rubber for when I have the car resprayed soon here in Germany where I and the car are at the moment. Next weekend I am going to the Essen Classic car show and there is a strong German following for Triumph and hence parts suppliers.

Unique to the Elan I'm afraid, Susan at Mick Miller Classic Lotus has both screens & rubbers in stock as well as the filler strip. She is very helpful too & has everything you will ever need for your ?lan (has the "?lan Sprint" decals too), you can contact her on (+44) 01728 603307. You can email her also but she is more old school (if you know what I mean) and is better to talk to over the phone.

Always better to buy a new windshield. But just for conversation, I believe the original Elan windshiled was from a Ford Capri Consul, 1961 vintage. I forgot were I read about this and do not know for sure as I have never seen a 61 Ford Capri. But it looks like it could work. The later Elans had a different windshield, most likely just for the S3 and 4's.

The Plus 2 shared it's windscreen with the Capri, but the 2 seat Elan is not so wide!
