Rear shock absorbers?

PostPost by: Bruce Crowthorne » Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:01 am

One of my rear shock absorbers has a weeping seal, so time for new ones.

I keep my car standard as I can (well mostly!) so I am looking for the normal, non adjustable inserts.
Both Sue Miller and Paul Mattys seem to only list adjustable ones.

So, does anyone know of a supplier of standard inserts?

Or, what was the original source of the part? Possibly a Mk1 Cortina? Maybe I can get them form a Ford specialist like Burtons?

Thanks
Bruce

Bruce,
Not sure if you can get the original ones anymore. Last set I had lasted 18 months (about 12 yrs ago). Not as good as they use to be?? Think they were Armstrong, could be wrong. If I were you I would get some AVO's. Decent kit at a decent price. A quick spin around and you find the setting that suit you. As I recall they only do about 1 and a bit turn. Sold car but I seem to recall being between 1/2 and 3/4 turn. On a track day I went up just past 3/4.

I'm a bit out of touch but my last inserts were Monroe, non-adjustable and fitted with no unexpected problems. The LH one I fitted 20 years ago and has done 70,000 miles while the RH went in 9 years ago so has only done 30,000. I bought them as a pair so they may not still be available.
