Gooding Scottsdale

PostPost by: dpchamp87 » Sat Jan 11, 2014 2:31 pm

Any Elan experts going to the Gooding auction in Scottsdale next week? There is a white Sprint FHC that I am interested in (although not at the price quoted in the catalogue) but I can't make it to the auction. If anyone is going and could take a good look at it for me I would be very grateful.

Thanks Tim. The Gooding guy is going to take a look for me when it arrives. $50-70k is just silly in my opinion but it is a no reserve car and I am sure everyone on this forum would like it to go to a true Elan enthusiast. I would certainly keep it original if I could buy it. I really need someone to look it over and establish exactly what is not original.

It's high time a quality ?lan achieved a price at auction representative of just how good these cars are compared with their contemporaries that regularly achieve far more and deliver far less.

The estimate looks conservative compared with the wider classic car market.

Thanks Tony. I spent 15 minutes talking with the owner yesterday and with all the pictures I have quite a good idea of what is on offer. However if you do see the car can you take a look at the chassis, particularly the base of the front towers and the other trouble spots

Have fun out there!

The Elan sold for $80k (not to me); thats over $90k with the buyers premium and likely transport costs!!! Numerous buyers in the room too. Finally our cars are getting some recognition.

Wow! Excellent.

Did anyone see the number on the LoCort (Lot 13)? I see they are live streaming the auction with about a dozen cars to go.

Turned that car down last year for 45K, another great decision of mine...

I'm sure something can be learnt about how this car was marketed etc to garner such a high price...

Greg, frankly that's even more of a wow...

That particular car has been for sale in St Louis for 2 years... sold for more than twice what any other +2 has sold for in the States.

The S4/Sprint was a special car... this not so much...
