Out of interest I checked UK inflation since 1974 - The multiplier is about 10

4000 pounds for an S1 or 800 pounds for a new cylinder head looks pretty good in todays cost !!!

The price of a complete NEW engine is what strike me down to my knees... :shock:

And if you look at the Value of the complete Car at 1500.00 that makes the Engine approx. 33% of its value, and today a rebuilt Engine is approx. 7500.00 and the car 22000.00 again approx. 33% of its value !!! Some things do not change

And in 1963 I paid 1,210.00 lps assembled for export (ex VAT) at the factory including avaiable accessories, toneau, radio, Dunlop XP tyres for 26/0538, my elan 1600.

Inflation eh!

In1974 I going to college and making minimum wage probably about US$2 an hour part time. I couldn't afford a Elan then let alone any of those parts. Instead I had a VW Beetle I paid about $300 for and all my parts came from the wrecking yard.
