OK guys, money where your mouth is time.

If this guy doesn't start making them I'd give consideration to doing a small run.
I have my old chassis sitting under the trees to measure and check, I've got plenty of brass, and clock repair is a little slow at the moment.

I'm not about to steal his business, but if he's not interested it really comes down to, how much would you pay for the hours that would go into it ?

I think, considering the amount of work that went into the model, that it will be difficult for Nene to produce a series of these. But I have suggested that to him. Here is another photo of this lovely thing.



I have a 26R frame in my Elan now, but in sheer elegance it is no match for the original design.

If things remain quiet on the work front, and I finish the clock I'm making for myself, I might just have a go at one for myself.
I'd then have a better idea of the time involved etc.
If I do I'll post some photos.
What do you think would be a good, final, length ? Doesn't have to be 1/8th scale.

A Lotus enthusiast who had not read this thread might wonder how an Elan frame ended so many stories high.

I?ve kept the frame on a side table at my office, taking it with me when I retired and set up shop in new premises. I read at the table the frame is on, and often I am distracted by the craftsmanship that went into its creation. It is a pleasure to look at.

Excellent.... and one of the advantages of having a chassis made in brass is that you do not have to keep the drain-holes in the front turrets clear............

I would be interested in one of these, but you would need to establish the pricing as it would be unfair for me to suggest your time/value to produce them. Clearly making a limited run would have it advantages as making a jig would help the production of them. I particularly like the mounting of the frame. If you decide to make these keep me in mind.

I am sure Ralph can make as good a scale model, Glen. My friend Nene made that model as a gift. He made two others, one for his son in the U.S., who restored an Elan, too. His son was inspired by the restoration of my Elan 30 years ago, particularly the painted bare frame sitting in my library, looking like sculpture. So I suppose the Elan frame is quite significant to our families.

Quite funny, Pete. But, yes, the advantage of brass is that it doesn't rust. I was curious how it would age without polishing, however, and so just left it alone. It has acquired some patina.

Andy, if your friend decides to make a few more scale frames let me know. Ralph, hopefully you will finish your clock building to pursue this.

I can relate about having a full scale frame as a piece of sculpture, I have recently acquired a 26R frame that is mounted to the wall in my garage. I like the look of it so much that when i change out the frame on my S1 I'll mount the old frame back on the wall as art.

Yes nothing better for household sculpture --- as some will have seen this hangs as a scuplture and chandeleer in my house
