New resto...

Hi, I'm new here and I have just got a part-restored 74 +2. I'll have loads of questions! They say never buy a part done resto, but that's what I have done. The prev owner is a relly nice guy and very diligent and systematic. So I'm hoping it'll be straight forward. Well as straight forward as it might be!

So first question is abuot the window frames on the doors. On one side the small section under the quarterlight is completely rusted away. What are the options here? It looks a tricky repair as its curved.

Cheers
Graham

Do an archive search. I believe someone on your side of the pond had some made in stainless steel. They may be sold out. My memory is a bit vague.

Good luck. I restored a +2 so if you have any questions ask away. If my memory permits I will have an answer.

Greetings.

To kick things off for you....here is a thread which covered your first problem. I think Bob is referring to Peter Mallinson. Maybe he, or others, could add more info on current state of play.

elan-plus-f13/best-options-for-fixing-rotten-window-frame-t18306.html

(BTW there is a +2 specific section for any future +2 specific posts...hopefully they would have a greater "circulation" with fellow owners / sufferers in there! )

Cheers - Richard

Thanks both for the info and welcome!

I'll see where they lead. I did try the search, but clearly not with the right search terms.

I wasn't quite sure of the distinction between general Elans and +2s and thought rotten window frames would be common.

I think Vincent Haydon has both the steel runner and the rubber seal
