Unobtainable Lotus Elan Parts

The parts I have found the most difficult to find have been:
correct heater and choke valve cables (1/4 turn to lock) I ended up using a cheap ugly one for the missing heater valve cable.
Failsafe headlight valve/switch (one day it showed up on ebay under the wrong title and it was near my dads house)
correct vinyl for the seats
functional failsafe vaccum servo (I modified a non-failsafe one to work ok)
Heads and blocks are available new now, but they ain't cheap. Ford has the blocks in iron $1599US, and someone else had them in aluminum.
Everything else I have been able to get for not too much money, but most of those purchases were 10 years ago.

They're still going to last 4 years minimum and then that's only ?80 per year and that's only like filling up with petrol twice!
This is only my opinion, but u would stay clear of the Dohnuts and go with a Tony Thompson racing CV driveshafts Circa ?500 more expensive but you will only have to buy once! keep them lubricated and they will last forever.

Gazzamuffin, your photograph shows Hooke Joint UJs, not CV joints, surely? Can you get CV jointed shafts for that sort of price, now Sue Miller doesn't have them?

I agree with Rob on the heater cables, have been looking for best part of five years for a heater cable with correct knob. Have managed to make a "replica" with a hand made logo as a temporary fix. I have since found a set of three cables with the correct knobs, but without any logos/lenses. They cam as a set of three on a mounting plate, supposedly from an early MK 1 Cortina, but why they had three knobs is beyond me. I can easily replicate the logo onto foil, but am looking for a suitable lens.
Haven't had a problem finding the choke cable as they were relatively common amongst other Ford cars.
There are other bits and pieces that are hard to come by, but few are critical to running of the car, or can't be replaced by some non-original component. For example rear tail-light assemblies for the S3, original window washer pump assembly, SE steering wheels, grill between windsreen and bonnet etc.

I've got a FHC S4 rear screen sitting around at home somewhere?????
