Keys and locks

Can anyone tell me which key should unlock the boot (trunk) on an S1, door ? or ign ?
I have a seized boot lock and before I force it with the wrong key it would be nice to know which one should fit.
Thanks

Hi Rod,

I have just checked mine; the boot lock is not the same as either the door lock or the ignition. The same key appears to operate both the door lock and ignition, but I do not know if the the ignition switch is original as a previous owner had started to redesign the dash and wiring but did not finish his work.

I am an original owner of an S2. The car came with two keys - one operates the door locks and ignition and the other operates the glove box (cubby) lock and boot lock.

Yes Rod, very early 200 chassis number, very original.

Check out my "what's it worth" thread for some photographs.

Logically it makes better sense to have one key for door & ignition and a second key for glove box and boot.

It means that you can lock your private stuff away when you give the door/ignition key to the car valet at your posh hotel for him/her to garage & clean your Elan.

Not sure that Lotus was too bothered about logic :D
My door and ignition keys are different. The boot has yet to be decided

I'm with Herb and Henry.

That said, the ignition is so worn it will operate with either key!

The definitive answer, straight from the workshop manual.

Appears to be saying one key for all.

My ignition key opens the trunk (boot) as well. It doesn't open the glove box or the doors and I don't have a key that does so I never lock them. I seem to remember that my first S2 had 2 different keys, but don't know or remember what opened what.

Having now managed to get the barrel out of the lock I can confirm that the boot lock is the same as the ignition lock on my S1
