Just had the results of a rolling road tune at CCK Historic. After fixing an oil leak from the cam cover gasket, a petrol leak from one of the Webers and an air leak from one of the exhaust manifold gaskets , it recorded 91bhp at the wheels. The carbs have all been balanced, new jets fitted and the idle sorted. They use an at the wheels power = 70% of flywheel power conversion at CCK Historic which I thought was overestimating transmission losses but it concurs with their tests of engine dyno performance against their rolling road dyno. So according to them it's 130bhp at the flywheel. However you calculate the conversion, it's still in the right ballpark for a Sprint specification 1558cc Twincam, so I'm chuffed to bits.

Picking it up Saturday morning and taking it for a proper drive, hopefully. It's been two years and a month since I bought it and I might finally get to enjoy the car.

Sorry it's a bit of a boring story, I just wanted to share it with people who might appreciate it. My enthusiasm was met with blank expressions from colleagues at work, like I'd just told them my washing machine was fixed and was able to spin at it's max 1,400rpm setting.

Just ignore them or next time tell them that your 45 year old washing machine has been restored and now has 93 horses spinning it.

A good twin cam sprint spec motor will put out around 95hp at the rear wheels plus or minus around 5 hp depending on a range of factors like tyres pressure and energy loss on the rollers and rolling road slip and rolling road roller calibration. Sounds like you are right in the ball park and have a healthry engine. Get out on the road and enjoy everyone of those ponys

I'm glad you made me look it up as I didn't realise there was an antonym: dischuffed, can't say I've ever heard anyone say that.

P.S. Thank you for all of your messages regarding the lack of sidewinder to the rear quarter panel, I was aware of it and I am taking steps to remedy this (along with respraying the not so gold bumpers). It's also missing the Sprint/Championship badges on the front wings.

I still can't decide whether I want to unSprint-a-like the car, cosmetically, in the future. Or whether to go with the original Lotus Yellow, Pistachio Lime Green or Carnival Red. The trouble is I love the Sprint Gold Leaf colour scheme.

I've been doing an informal poll of who knows the term chuffed on this side of the pond, still have not found anyone who does. However this one would have been easy to figure by context. But when Paul McCartney used it in a radio interview on his 60th birthday context didn't help, interesting.
