Salut

A pair of fed +2 seats are on ebay - any idea if it's economical to get them shipped to GB or Europe (France)?

Merci

Vernon,

The cost of shipping anything out of the States is expensive. This is why I list my items on Ebay for sales in the U.S. only.

Example: A fellow in the U.K wanted too buy an NOS oil filler cap for a Sunbeam Tiger. I checked into shipping from San Diego to the U.K..................$73.00 shipping for a $55.00 dollar item.................
The U.S Postal service requires insurance on items over a certain amount and/or proof it arrived to the correct party.............I gave up. There are others companies, U.S Postal is what I use.

Good Luck

Mike,

Is the insurance requirement something new you heard about for 2012? I routinely ship to the UK, France, Australia, and other countries, and have never been required to purchase the additional insurance. IN fact, I just logged in to my account and prepared a shipping label to the UK; at no time was I required to purchase insurance.

Virtually all shipments from the USA to overseas destinations have indemnity automatically included; it's been that way for years Here is the language from the USPS website as of today for shipments to the UK:

"Indemnity is included for uninsured parcels, but it is limited to the actual value of the contents or, based on the actual weight of the package, a maximum of $79.20, whichever is less. Indemnity is not provided for certain items. Consult the International Mail Manual or your local Post Office for detailed information."

So, it's not as inexpensive as it used to be several years ago, but the USPS is often several times cheaper than Fed-X or UPS. Not always, but often. HTH.

Thanks for the heads up Steve. Perhaps the insurance was included in the price from USPS. All I know is......it was expensive.........of course I still live in the sixties and am slow to advance.

An old friend once told me, if you took todays price and cut it in half, and that amount seemed reasonable, then today's price was probably right on the money.
Just arranging shipping for two windshields from the isles. The shipping is above the cost of a single piece of glass, thus making the second one much cheaper to get here. Felt lucky to partner with another owner to help defray the costs.

I posted the earlier topic about shipping from the UK to the US.

I will be using a freight forwarder that I have used before. Their price quote includes a dozen charges related to government regulation. The cost of shipping for a person or company without an account set up with the major package delivery companies will pay the "list" price.

The best price I was able to get for the two windscreens was 773. US dollars. That is door to door with all duties and fees paid. More than the cost of the items.

Using the online calculators from the various shipping companies the price quote was 30 to 45 percent higher. That did not include some of the fees and tariffs.

It would certainly pay to consolidated several orders into one shipment.
