Alan

Because of the unit number jump from 0048 to 3049 there was never a 1745 unit. So my first question is are you sure that you have the unit number and not a body number?

If what you have is unit number 3745 then I can only tell you that it left the factory with engine no. LP1811 on 7 Jun 1964

That may be a chassis number, get photos of the numbers or documents and email Andy Graham at Lotus. He can help you.

I think this is a matter best left with Andy. I don't think that this kind of request should be fielded on this forum any longer, at least not without photos of the Elan or/and its chassis unit body or engine to indicate that its real. This is getting to be another pet hates of mine. SHOW US what you have if not go find a friend to help, that kind of request is certainly welcome.

fire away! :D

Gents,

Lotus Body numbers ( 4 digit dymo starting in Dec of 63) don't start with a 26/ . Bourne's do start with a 26/, first digit is a leading zero. As for Unit numbers I have early car with a Components tag that reads Unit 26/0XXX -

Alan,
Take another look at the tag(s) the scribe work was not always the best or look on the frame for unit number or serial number. check engine head for LP number for engine ( early cars had die cast heads)

George

I think Gary may have used the word "hate" in the wrong context. I fully understand and agree, knowing Gary's position, that we owners would like to see something of substance before handing out the combo to the bank vault. I, along with many others, are very sensitive to replicating VIN numbers. I can tell you that from experience, I own a Lotus Cortina and a Lotus 23. There is a war raging this very minute on the Cortina List.

hi Mike ,
i see what you mean and understand. i was looking for an Elan Plus2 front wing a few days ago and someone offered me a rolling chassis with V5. When i checked the reg n? on the DVLA website, the V5 did not agree with the numberplate on the car in the photos :?: . This was someone who advertises in the Club Lotus mag and uses a different name on fleabay :!: :!: . i will not give any names because i don't want any problems. All i can say is check out as much as you can before you handover the readies   .
Anyway thanks very much for the leads from all you guys
