Sellers / Ekland Elan

This photo of the Sellers-Ekland Elan posted in the current Rindt thread doesn't appear to have a parcel shelf. Could it have been a fastback Shapecraft Elan? (I know from previous posts that Shapecraft Elans are a sensitive topic; I'm not looking to get flamed here.) :D

It certainly was, and it was a standard road Elan, as most Shapecrafts were, not a 26R.

There was an article on Peter Sellers' cars in one of the Classic magazines many moons ago....I'll get hunting!

Mark, I can't take credit for this photo; 'dlbutler' posted this earlier in response to my quiry in a different thread. I had always heard that Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland owned an Elan, but had never seen a photo. Several photos from fellow members surfaced as a result. What a great resource we have in this forum!

I believe it's actually 'Eklund' - I merely mention the fact for what it may be worth...

On further reflection, perhaps not...

"Celebrity Antiques Road Trip" on BBC2 right now...

"Bond girls Honor Blackman and Britt Ekland take to the road in an Aston Martin. Their mission - to buy antiques and make a profit as they roar around Cambridge and Saffron Walden"

Britt gave it a very brief mention: "My first car was a Lotus Elan..." (and then spoke of the cars which followed...)

Should be on iPlayer later.

Cheers - Richard

This may be a well known image, but was any conclusion drawn on the fate of this car (APJ 2B) or any other of the supposed 10 Shapecraft cars.

Here you go, an article I wrote a while back on the Shapecraft Elans for Club Lotus News magazine.

Tim, thanks for your article, are you still tracking shapecraft Elans? Does the table in your article include the black car sold at auction a few years ago that had had roof modified to be a triage and +2 style rear with widened wheels. I think I saved pictures. which I'l share, I understand it was restored and expect its now racing.

Here's any Britt Shapecraft picture......grrrrrrr!

some pics of 26-R-4 after we had put the car back to a full width front bumper and repainted it.
Pics show the bumper fit before and after!

I currently have the very first Shapecraft in the workshop undergoing extensive bodywork refurb , including a new front end.
