At 45/8236 my car was likely built close in time to yours referred to above. Mine was also white when I bought it. The gold paint on the bumpers, wheels and mirror looked like it was applied with a brush, I'd always assumed that it was the PO's choice, but I see a few that seem to have been originally offered with gold accents.
Here is a shot from 1988 not long after I bought the car, taken at Pt Reyes north of San Francisco. I've long since had the car repainted blue.
