Hi Rob, more memories here, I had forgotten J and S; all the interesting companies gone to the wall; Lynx Engineering, [ John and Leon ] I guess both Merv and Ken Waggot are probably history as well.

I noticed an earlier comment about Richard Wilson's car, I've finally I've worked out who richard Wilson's car was owned by, in early 80's it was owned by Peter Coombes who lived in Back of Chatswood, it was blue and rough around the edges, but very quick, I've a picture I'll scan and post somewhere from gathering at the late John Dawson-Damers property.
Cheers

I finally found my old elan, still with the bloke I sold it to in 1970, we had a great chat for an hour and I was able to post photos to him from a 12 hour race in Surfers in the late 60's; it was nice to know it hadn't gone to the Lotus graveyard like so many others.

there used to be another black S1 or 2 in Sydney with big guards but no idea where it went.
Gordon, that car still competes occasionally in Regularity with HSRCA. Go to elan-photos-f18/elan-flairs-the-good-the-bad-and-some-ugly-ones-t16400-60.html

My old Elan at Surfers, 1967-68. Mine being the dark one [blue with stripes] I think maybe Neil Allen's one leading.

Not directly connected, other than to Surfers paradise, here is my S1 racing there (Bill Gates driving) in 1966...

John, is your brother Ross the now retired metallurgist who I competed against in tarmac rallies? His navigator was his daughter Ruth and they competed in his Elfin Clubman.
They had an amazing escape in tasmania when they left the road and a gumtree grazed Ruth's helmet but they were unhurt. We were the car behind them (Caterham HPC) and couldn't even see them as we went past! Never did another rally in my car after that.
Cheers Peter
