A few photos of my "new" S1

Here are a few shots of my new Elan. A few are as found and a few of the car after one night of cleaning. The gold paint in the drivers door jam appears to be the original color. I have yet to determine the original color of the hard top.
Hope they come through.
Thanks Silas

Hi Guys,
The shot of the car with the MGB is one of the as found shots. My shop can get somewhat messy but not that bad. I do have an MGB but mine is a roadster. It too dwarfs the Elan but not nearly as dramatic as my 122 which is currently parked next to the S1 and feels like a Hummer compared with the Lotus.
Cheers Silas

Looking great Silas! Very complete. Glad you figured out the pics.
Russ et al, if Silas can't locate the original plate, are the replacement plates on eBay UK suitable for the S1? Looks like Silas may be able to get all the required numbers from the Oregon plate, the block and the body number he mentioned? Not sure for S1, but my Plus 2 had the VIN hand written on the back of the glove box in marker pen if required. Just a thought.

Fantastic find, Silas. It's so rare to find an Elan with virtually all of its original bits still in place. Please do take hundreds of pictures of all the little detail....you never know, your car may just have the last of something on it that no other S1 has left.
Of interest is the studded steering wheel (worth a fortune but you won't be able to replace it), the fuel pipe to carbs (the original, and nearly always having been replaced by a modern) and the original rubber carpeting. I notice that a few of the switches on the dash have lost their knobs, but those can be replaced easily as they were mainly Ford UK items.
Don't give up on finding the original chassis plate!

Hello Silas, looks like a fun little project there. If you are missing any little original items, please let me know as I've got some extra S1 odds and ends lying around.
I may be wrong on this but I don't think there were any gold S1's from the factory. The only three colors I know of are red white or blue, anyone else know of others?
edited; Holy Smokes, I forgot BRG ! What a Yankee !
Silas, you might try pulling the rubber windlace seals loose or up on top of the inner front of the doors with a bit of scraping to see what color lies beneath the gold. Maybe on the rear cockpit wall behind the rubber matting ? ? ?
Good luck and have fun,
Eric

Mine was yellow according to the DVLA. I assume it was the sunburst yellow listed here:

It probably was the Sunburst yellow Paddy...the same colour as my Elite. Are you putting it back to that at some time?!
I understand that you could order an Elite or an Elan in any colour you wanted from the factory for a small extra sum.

Hi Guys,
The original color on my car based on deep investigation was gold. I was told by the original owner that there was some significance to this but not sure what that might be. Also wanted to add that I now have the original VIN plate, see my new posting under Elan heading, and will be contacting the Lotus archive to see what additional info they might be able to provide. Also looking for guidance on decoding some of the numbers.
Thanks so much.
Also happy to take pice of any particular part of car if that would be helpful.
Cheers Silas
