Might get a more learned response from the Racing section of the forum. Christian can possibly help out?

Edit: I've sent him a PM.

Hi Pete ,
Just read your MP ,
Let's ask Redcarandco some presentation... and if possible , the more details , pictures he allready collected.
Then ,if necessary ,I'll happy to help if able to do it. At least I ll answer in french. And if that stay on the board I'll do the translation, if necesarry.
At first , that sequence in the VIN # show an 26R S2 !?!
Then , engine # is no reel use as generally only the plate is going to survive to a racing life. But it allways could be a surprise.
So :

To Redcarandco,
Sinc?rement,
Christian.

loved the translation of "VIN" to "Wine" by what I presume is an automatic web translator :D

In Australia they have a game show on TV where they translate the lyrics of a song from english to japanes and back again using web translators and the contestants have to guess the song - the results are often very amusing

cheers
Rohan.

Hi All
26-S2-** would be the correct number for an S2 26R but they only went up to 26-S2-43

There is no R in the series 2 26R numbering system.

The number is more likely to be 26/5274. A shot of the chassis plate would be good.

I have pics of several genuine 26R plates to compare.
Best place to start with race history is known previous drivers/owners.

Cheers

Hi Dave ,
You may be right .
I have allready seen such subtil change when /=1 at the customs gate .
So in the same order, it should be possible that S=2, S=5, B=8, T=7 ...
Please wait for Redcarandco, and further details...

I don't believe that it is 5274, that's one of Rod Bean's Elan's

http://www.elanregistry.org/list_cars.php

1966
Type 26
Chassis 5274
Series S2
Variant Roadster
Color blue
Engine Number
Purchase Date 1975-09-17
Sold Date 0000-00-00
Comments I've had this car since 1975. It's all apart now but complete. I'll refurbish it someday. Yes, that's latex house paint. I bought it that way from a boat builder and didn't repaint it because I thought it gave the car a special character. On the trailer in the background is the late John Clark's S2 slalom car.
