new member with '72 Sprint DHC

PostPost by: Terry L » Sun Jan 09, 2011 5:14 am

I am new to this board although not to the Lotus community. I have bought a '72 Sprint DHC, yellow over white, with 44,000 miles, from the original owner. The car has not been restored but it has been maintained over the years and we just refreshed all of the suspension bits. I will try to attach a picture. The car is now laid up for the winter here in the Philadelphia area but I would like to reestablish ties with the local LOG. I had a 2005 Elise (bought new) and drove and tracked it for three years before going back to Porsches. Back in the day (1969-70) I had a red 1965 Elan as my DD and always regretted selling it.

Welcome Terry! Sounds just about like my story.

Except for the selling of the Elan. And the Porsche part. Oh, and the Elise bit, too.

But otherwise . . . it's eerie how similar! :D

Terry

Welcome! And always good to learn of another Sprint. Does your car retain the stock Stromberg Federal head and plumbing? I get the impression that it is increasingly rare to find this set up still in use, most owners having converted to Weber heads at some time for the added horsepower.

Yes, still has the federal Stromberg setup. I gather the Weber heads are really expensive and rare at this point.

What an amazing coincidence! In addition, I went to summer camp in Maine when I was like 10 years old.

Terry, Welcome to the group. I am down in Baltimore. Don Butler is another group member that is involved with the Philadelphia area lotus owners. Here's hoping for warmer weather and less salt on the road, so that we can drive these boys. Dan Collins '70 S4 (also still on strombergs)

Welcome to the forum Terry. Your car looks exactly like mine.

Apart from the repeater indicators. And the wheel nuts. And the steering wheel on the wrong side.

But otherwise, identical!

I also sold my S4SE back in 76 and regretted it ever since.

Do register your details on the Sprint site mentioned by Greg and also on Jim Boone's Unibrain elan register.
