Another Elan back on the road

PostPost by: Wayne » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:42 pm

I have been helping my friend get his Elan SS back on the road after a sleep of 25 years. Several weekends of work and we have it running and driving with a couple of hundred of miles of use. It's a 1968 SS that he has owned for 30 years. Brakes and hydraulics were the big items due to sitting. Any ideas of a body shop in the Connecticut area for the Spring?

Congratulations! I just starting the same project way over in Bethel but mine's only been off the road for 23 years.

Check with Kent Bain at Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT. They are not cheap, but the shop does very good work. They have done over 30 Elans over the years and they know the problems that can arise and how to solve them. They did my 64 Elan S1 six years ago and it has held up well. When I had a couple of post body/paint problems, they took care of it.

+1 on Kent Bain for paint. They did my old S3 20 years ago and it still looks great.
