moving from LA to Japan. Having fun with driving Elan!
The paint is very much an American (1957 Chevy pick-up paint) but I think it still looks good in Japan as well.

A great looking Elan. What company did you use to ship from CA to Japan and what were the fees for an Elan? There was a company in Southern CA that shipped world wide but I lost their info.
Thanks for any information, Sarto

I forgot the name of the shipping company but my friend often uses them to ship a classic car to Japan. I believe they ship cars to Europe and Asia.
The shipping cost was $1250 and I payed a couple hundred dollars to my friend for a paper work.
You can check his web site and maybe you can reach him.
His name is Koh and he is very nice guy to talk to.

The S2 looks good...an interesting colour!
At last you are driving on the correct side of the road, although with the width of an Elan I'm not sure it would make much difference.
Be sure to hook up with the local Elan enthusiasts out there....there are lots of them. And when you do, get them to start posting some pictures up here.
I don't think that I've ever seen anybody from Japan posting on Elan.net, but there's a very concentrated gang of Elans around Tokyo. I was sent some of these pictures, and the numbers of Elans that turn up put some of the UK meetings to shame!!

Hi Mark, you are right. Your photos do reflect their love for Lotus Elans. I have never seen an all Elan get together in sheer numbers as shown in your pictures.
It has always been puzzling but it now makes sense why I have sent more Elan knockoff tools to Japan than any other country, including the US.

There is an Elan meeting here in Japan and I would go to the gathering whenever they have next time and will post a picture.
The pictures that Mark had posted were one of Elan Meeting in Tokyo and Fuji Speedway several years ago, I believe.

Welcome to the Far East. I am in Manila. Philippines, along with my Elan (see the thread on 1969 S4 DHC #8439).
That is an interesting, unique color.
Japan is very enthusiastic about Lotuses, and the Elans have a large following there, as you know. For a long while, the life of a cartoon character in the popular Japanese car magazine "Tipo" revolved around his Elan. I have a few Japanese friends; one was just over to judge a car show and several will be coming over this weekend for a vintage car race. The Japan Classic Car Club events always have a large Lotus turnout, especially at their New Year meeting. And there are so many Lotus specialists there. Lotus heaven.
I gather you are not Japanese? Are you relocating there permanently?

Andy,
I am originally from Japan but I lived in LA for 20 years or so. I relocated back to Japan for work and I would say I am here for permanently.
I have a couple of friends here that I've met in LA and they are here with their Elan and they introduce me to some meetings, clubs and shops which are very helpful.

Andy, you are correct in saying the the Japanese love their Lotuses as during a conversation with, Clive Mitchell before his sad death a few years ago, he told me that he and his partner had sold over 700 restored Lotuses to Japan over a ten year period.
He didn't state which types but looking at the Elan gathering it seems pretty obvious.
