Trying to track a S3 S/E FHC, PTM 852R formerly SGN 1 F

I've just got back into restoring Lotus cars and currently have a 74 Europa I'm working on. Back in the early 70's I bought a 1967 "written off" S3 S/E FHC Red SGN 1F and rebuilt it completely and re-registered it in 1976? PTM 852 R now Black. The registrations were both in Herfordshire, UK and I sold the car to a dealer in Wolverhampton around 1980 or 81 when I needed a 4 seater. Anyone have any information as to what happend to this car? I'll try to post a picture shortly when I get some 35 mm slides digitized. I now reside in Cincinati, OH USA.
Regards,

Ray

I bought a black RHD S3 with 7 inch JAP Magna in back and 6's in front out of Canada a couple years ago, what was the VIN?

According to the licence agency in the UK It looks like PTM 852R hasn't been on the road recently as it would have had a specific "date of liability" if it had been on the road after 31st January 1998.

Date of Liability Not Available
Date of First Registration 01 08 1976
Date of Last V5 Issue 14 07 1986
Year of Manufacture 1976
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1760CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Not Available
Vehicle Colour WHITE

Thanks for the reponses so far. :D
I do not remember the vin so I cannot help with that question. There's an outside chance it could be the Canadian car, it did have flared arches with 6.5 inch wide steel wheels when I built it.
The engine size when I built it was 1558cc and the color was definately black not white. I will post a picture when I get a slide digitized.

Ray

Hello Ray

I live in Scituate, Massachusetts. If you get out this way let me know and we could get together. The flairs in the back come out straight out around 3 inches at a downward angle of about 10 to 15 degrees. the fronts are not flaired much but seemed to be cut up a little for clearance. The Elan is currently disassambled right now but it had one of the heaviest rollbars that I have seen, the rear strut support brace had a 1/2 inch plate welded into it for the shoulder harness attachment. Does any of this sound like your Elan?

Gary,

I do not think the car you described is PTM 852R. The car as built by me did not have a roll bar. The flares were taken from an Escort twin cam rally car and were wide enough back and front to cover at least a 6 inch wide wheel. The rear did offer some wrap around coverage vertically as well as width wise and the front were mainly a widthwise flare if that makes any sense. I wish I had the photos ready to post.

Regards,

Ray

Thanks for the previous responses on this subject. I now have a couple of slides digitized so I'll to upload them with this e-mail or if not they should be viewable on Yahoo photos. At Yahoo photos there are pictures of my current project a 74 Europa TCS and a former project a 69 Marcos Mini.
If any one knows what happened to the Elan I sure would be interested to hear from them.

I Used to own PTM 852R I bought it from a car dealer in Stourbridge West Midlands UK it was white with flared arches and a black vinyl roof. I kept it for around 8 or 9 years then sold it to a man in Leciestershire. I have som photos of it somewhere in the attic. I can be contacted via facebook Alanandlynne Thompson

Wow!
That's an old topic resurrected! None of the people on that original set of posts are regulars here any more, but it's always great to see pictures of cars as they were back in the day.

If you can find the time please post up some photos of your old car or perhaps email them to me and I will post them up here for you. Email is alan(at)thomas hardware.co.uk ( change (at) for @ )

Alan

After a long wait, since 2008, it appears some information has come to light about my 1967 Slll S/E FHC. I'm looking forward to exchanging some e-mails with the guy that owned it and drove it for 8 years after I sold it to a dealer in Wolverhampton, W Midlands. Seems somebody changed the colour from Black to White but left the vinyl roof alone. Hopefully more to come. Sure would like to trace it all the way to the next owner from Leicestershire.

Ray

I agree with your comment about the rear fogs and reversing lights they were pretty ugly, all I could afford or come up with at the time. I was fresh out of college and would have done things differently these days but overall I was pretty happy with the way the car came out, not one for the purists, but a 23 year old wanted a "hot" car. I did all the fiberglass work, crafted on a new front end, A pillows forward, new chassis etc.and all the painting in my Dad's single car garage. I should have kept the original licence plate SGN 1 F but wanted a "new" car plate, that's youthful short term thinking or not thinking. Fun car and fun times. I have a 1974 Europa TCS now.
