Stranded

PostPost by: DJThom » Mon Oct 18, 2010 1:29 pm

After being left stranded in the summer, I finally got around to pulling the engine. It turns out the pin holding the distributor drive gear had come partway out, caught on the block and broke the gear. The pin remained out, which prevented the distributor from being removed from above.

Fortunately I was able to push the pin back in via a hole revealed with the oil pump removed. Even more fortunately, the jackshaft wasn't damaged.

Now that its out, I'm going to try and fit an Alfa 105 tranny I was fortunate to be able to purchase a few years back from a member on this forum that had already done some of the engineering necessary.

I'm having trouble sourcing the drive gear for the distributor at what I consider to be a reasonable cost.

Could I get some suggestions as to where to find it? Pegasus have the gear for the oil pump, but not the distributor, go figure. They're nearly identical, with the exception of the internal shaft diameter.

Advanced Distributors (Jeff Schlemmer)
17495 Marystown Road
Shakopee, MN 55379
(612)-804-5543

Jeff runs a distributor repair/ restoration shop (Lucas specialist) and isn't a parts vendor, but you might talk him into selling a gear to you.

Or send him the distributor. It will come back to you looking better than brand new and with any advance curve you want.

Jeff does good work.
