This is a second hand "TTR Grrrrrrr..." anecdote:
A French friend of mine was bemused by receiving the "I nearly made in F3" lecture from Mr TTR and the general "do this / do that / need this..."and "that lot over in...(firm beginning with K)" do not know what they are on about..."
Especially as he was a former French F2 champion and is a rather handy mechanic...
Needless to say, he just bought a few essentials.

Hi David,
I don't know anything about the Kelveden shafts, personally I would have brought both parts from same supplier then if anything goes wrong you only have one place to complain.
What is the torque for the Kelveden shafts?
On my car I changed to bolt-on hubs which was probably one of my better decisions because torquing the rear hub can be done with wheels on.
Regards
Steve

After 14 years finaly went to give my gts spec elan a shake down. Torqued rear nut to 120 as my ttr sheet says ran 100 m retorqued, ran 300 m rear offside hub came off. Had i the wrong torque settings? If i replace the damaged shaft and hub would a higher torque solve the problem or is it safer to go to the 26R S2. Very lucky to get away with no body damage as was going slowly in 1st gear at the time? Could have been nasty at high speed.

Yikes! I don't think that is typical at all batfish.
I fitted and forgot about mine-however, I did use 'one time use' nuts and also used a centre punch in several places to prevent loosening. Several thousand miles without trouble and I had to really work to get the hubs off to install the new (probably unneeded) shafts. (26R hubs)

It sounds like the hub had not seated on the taper for some reason and it shift and then undid the nut. you need to ensure the tapers are a good fit between the hub and the shaft by lapping them in. You elso need to ensure the hub nut and washer are not bottoming out. Once the taper is locked nothing except a 10 tonne press and heat should move it.

New hub and drive shaft ordered, I will lap the shafts myself this time as they were fitted by others previously. I did ask about converting what I have to the S2 hub system but the intermediate drive shafts are different and would also require replacing.

For the TTR heavy duty F1 billet hub shafts pretty sure the instructions from TTR stated 160 lb. A much bigger thread and nylock nut than standard is used.
After careful lapping of the the hub to shaft(keyless) and the 160 torque no problems with slippage/loosening even with 181 bhp and 143 torque output coupled with sticky tires. The careful mating/lapping is what makes the whole thing work IMHO. Spend the time to do this properly.
I have checked the torque numerous times (easy to do, 26r hubs) and there has not been any loosening whatsoever.

A certain Mr T............................. having supplied them with donor diffs/gearboxes and a ton of other stuff over the last 25 plus years I've sort of got used to "the sales pitch". Stood in their office "a time ago" and listened to a conversation with a prospective buyer in Germany. He was about to buy well over ?4,000 of parts for an Elan a percentage of which Mr T junior had just bought off me for under a ?1,000. Grrrrrrr !
