PostPost by: alan » Fri Apr 02, 2010 7:04 am

i'm with you on that one Bob. my 1973 +2s130 has it's original chassis with no leaks for the headlights but i would prefer a Lotus galvanised chassis.

My S4 is the original chassis - protected by the factory designed anti-rust self-application systems (oil leaks to the outsiders). No salt on Oz roads (although some in the coastal air...). 8)

i also have the original paint - but it's hidden under another colour...

My 1969 S4 has the original chassis. In the mid-90s it was reinforced in various areas and repainted. It hasn't seen many miles since then, but I plan to get it on the road again regularly this summer. Can't wait.

Hi Everyone

I'll join up for this club as both my Plus 2 and Europa Special are on their original chassis. Not sure how much longer the Plus 2 one will last though before repair or replacement will be required.

Regards
Andy

Mine is on the original chassis due to a dry environment in Colorado & CA.

1969 S4 DHC
I found the serial number stamped on the chassis on RHS just in front of the engine mount top flat surface. I had the chassis sand blasted TT/26R modifications and strenghtning them power coated in the orginal 'red lead' color. The serial number is still just visable through the power coat. Pictures loaded on the Yahoo lotus elan group.
I would have replaced the chassis if I had not found the numbers.
Has anyone else found them stamped on their chassis?

James

....and yet another.....69 S4....bit of work done to the rear but front end benefitted from the  same "rolling anti-corrosion coating" as some others.
......it even makes my mini look big!.....

I have two S2's with the original chasis, one under full restoration and the other completely original even down to the paint. It has had some touch up done in a few areas but still in great shape. 58K mile logged to date.
The restroation has been off the road since early 80's so no idea of mileage on that one.

Oil does a great job of preservation but remember to clean out the front frame towers or the rust will get you!

This is a topic that probably worth its own. How many new owners even know about the weep/drain holes in the front chassis turrets (rear ones too) at the top.
