Hi,
I thought it might be interesting to find out how many people have a running Elan on its orginal chassis. My S4 as far as i know on its orginal chassis its fine as far as I can see.
Any others about?
Bob
PS I will add photos of it when I can shrink them.

Hi, Ive owned my 1970 S4 from new so I know the chassis is the original, I removed it quite a few years ago when I was working in the shipbuildng industry and had it sandblasted and hot zinc sprayed. I think it will see me out so long as I don`t stuff it in a ditch etc.

My 72 Sprint is on its original chassis & my 64 S2 WAS on its original chassis until a tree had a diagreement with it, so now its on an original rear end and a new front end.....does that count

'70 S4 with original chassis protected by oil that leaked profusely from the engine for at least the last 20 years until recently rebuilt.

'71 S4 with original chassis protected by oil that leaked profusely from the engine for the first 30 years until rebuilt where it stopped leaking for a couple of years and then reverted back to chassis preservation mode.

My 66 S3 Elan still has an original chassis. Protected by oil until a rebuild and was cleaned and recoated for protection. Only needed a transmission bracket repair. Currently has 33,500 original miles logged.

26-4889 is still on its original chassis. Just rolled over to 60,000 miles on Tuesday coming back from my annual tour with a buch of friends. 1200+ miles on the tour in three days, and the only problem was a leaky water heater control valve. New one one the way.

This has all the makings of a very good club, I think my S4 has covered about 100,000 miles, with no record at all of a chassis change. When I bought it I spoke to PM for advise, they Tut tutted, but I went ahead in any case. Neil Myers was very supportive of orginal metal it seems to have worked out very well. I think there should now be a premium for an Elan with good orginal chassis
