More than one Lotus?

PostPost by: garyeanderson » Thu Jul 16, 2009 10:29 am

How many folk here on the forum can't seem to keep there hands off other Lotus cars and have more that an Elan or Plus2? Is this a common Lotus owner problem or blessing and what do you think your ultimate excess colection should look like when your done? I guess I am pretty close but I would like to find a ally bodied Lotus.

I guess that makes it Elan Roadster, Elan Coupe, mk1 LoCort, Elite, and a mkVI or a MkIX as those Elevens are oh so common. :)

Hmm,

I have just the one - I'd like an S1 Lotus 7 as well though, I doubt it was called an S1 then, but people will know what I mean.

I'd like other cars, but there aren't any other Lotus cars that I can realistically look to own (49 & 25 would be great!)

Excels, Esprits, M100 Elans and Elises can all be bought for less money than my Elan.

To the ELan S4 FHC, Plus 2S 130/5, Esprit S1 I would love to add a S3 twin cam Seven, a current model supercharged Exige, and an Excel and a 23B would be nice if I still had garage space

cheers

Try again !!

Hi all,
I have two early S3 coup?'s and an early Elan Plus two.... it's strange but I do not find other marques as interesting or remakable as a Lotus.
If I ever did add a fourth it would be an S1 Exige.

Have to agree with Gino, nothing else holds the same interest.
Current daily drive is an S1 Elise in which I have installed a 200hp ford Duratec, and I have a '64 S1 and 66 S3 coup? (pre airflow). For me the S3 is the best of the lot (that should start something!).
Have in the past had a Seven (13 years, great) a Plus 2 5 years (lovely and underrated) and Type 14 (3 years). Type 14 beautiful to look at.......

Like many, I imagine, I have a 111R as well as the Elan. It`s my 3rd Elise in 10 years so I`m obviously a satisfied customer. Because we do 2 or 3 longish classic rallies each year plus sundry trips to classic events and stuff, we actually do more miles, nearly twice as many, in the Elan.

How about currently own -

1969 Elan +2 - all black, currently being converted to race spec, new Spyder chassis and rose jointed wishbones.

1972 Elan +2S 130/4 - black, gold metalflake - not an original JPS, currently receiving a mechanical overhaul.

2 x 1988 Excel SE - light blue awaiting engine repair, dark blue in daily use.

1980 Essex Esprit Turbo number 007, garaged awaiting some work for MOT.

1998 Motorsport bodied Elise (S1 Exige), raced in LOTRDC, laser blue with Honda K20A, redundant whilst I decide whether or not to race again.

Yes I have got it bad, Lotus my first love and probably my last, dabbled in Cosworths and Imprezas but always returned to Lotus, never been without a Lotus for 32 years, been a Club Lotus member all that time too.

Previously owned - 1969 Elan +2 in black - TAL 113 G
1970 Elan +2S black/gold - HYY 21 J
1978 Esprit S2 - Silver
1986 Excel SE - dark blue
1974 Elite 502 - dark blue

Would love to trace both of the +2's, anyone know of their whereabouts?

I only have the one Lotus, witch is fine for now... but there is garage space for two more.
I have always liked the single seaters from before they had wings, so a FJ 20 please and a Ginetta G4, no make that a G12 for some serious track days.

I once heard it said that Lotuses are like prunes. Is one enough? Are seven too many? 8)

I started looking at a Seven as I was tired of my Sprite breaking in race after race and the Sevens seemed to always run like rabbits. I didn't fit the car I looked at but the fellow also had an S2 Elan which I really fit in nicely. I bought it and raced it for 15 years. Along the way I became a fan of this little band of overachievers called Lotus and had to acquire others as I learned more. Each has a story of finding me as much as I found them. As Paul Simon says...I am "Still crazy after all these years!"

I currently own:
1960 Elite SE, 1965 Elan S2, 1968 Seven S3, 1970 Elan Plus 2S, 1991 Elan M100, and 2002 Point Seven. Plus a 1972 Mallock U2 Vintage Racer and a 1971 BMW 2800CS.

I have owned and sold for various reasons: 1966 Elan S2 Vintage racer, 1967 Elan Preairflow Coupe, 1974 Europa Special 5spd, 1983 Westfield Eleven Le Mans and a 1988 Esprit Turbo. In 2007 eight of these went to LOG 27 in Aspen where they were all in the concours photo with Fittipaldi and his championship winning 72D. Ahh, the memories :D

Gary - you know I have more than one. I need to re-invent my financial status to make it three, 25, 33 and 49.

So looking for a theme I think it's innovation--Elan S3 DHC, +2S/130 then
'72 Citroen SM, '87 Mazda RX7, '65 Mustang--diversity! Gordon Sauer
