Relax Russ, the decision has been made to keep the car as close to original as possible (exhaust excepted). Like I mentioned in a previous post, I was under the impression the list of modifications I compiled was relatively minor in the overall scheme of things and the car would remain cosmetically as if it were sixties new. It appears they are not and so for preservations sake, the car will be as close to it was in 1966 as possible. It's better I come to a place like LotusElan.net and find all this out before with some balanced discussion than just go in all guns blazing.

Another useful source of information is the SCCA General Competition Rules for the time period. If the car was campaigned in the States it would have needed to comply at the time. The rules list all allowable competition modifications. You may be able to discover what is on the car now that shouldn't have been on the car during its competiton days.

I have copies from 1967 and 1973 here somewhere, but haven't seen them since I moved. I believe I purchased them from the SCCA in reprint form.

Here's a site that posts some of the 1967 GCR but I don't know if it is complete or not. The Elan is listed in Production C class.

Great car, looking forward to seeing pictures.

I chose the one that Dave has custom-made by a local speed shop (mid-grade, but I didn't want the expense of a full race chain.)

Are there many/any suppliers of standard length endless timing chains these days??

The motor I've just dis-assembled appears to have one fitted - a Rolon endless chain - anyone know where they can be sourced?

Intended use will be for a road going motor - tuned for additional power, but no more than a standard crank and 125E rods can cater for.

Cheers

James

I have TTR adjustable dampers on both my Elans and the ride is superb.

Also, if you haven't already got a tandem m/c and dual circuit brakes I would recommend them for peace of mind. I also feel happier with the TTR rollover bar and side and footwell bars.

Apologies if these have already been mentioned.

Hello,
I have upgraded my front brakes to +2 spec, very nice, very good, very recommendable, and an absolutely hidden mod.
But I am not sure if it is possible on the S2, but the more experienced members could comment that.

I would put this mod well before other mods, braking adequately is far more important (as other security items) than more horse power.
