Ken,

Malcolm's car has been prepared to 26R specification and has been raced for many years. It is also road equipped so that it could be used in road rally events. The 'price required' is ?125,000.

Ed seems to have been doing an awful lot of deleting on the 2nd of December 2012.

Hi there,

as has been mentioned earlier, there is a fair bit of silly "in fighting" here presently.
Please do your very best to ignore our little squabbles, which will no doubt settle down as quickly as they have arisen.

Keep the good, interesting factual stuff coming please; this forum thrives on it.

Cheers
John

Where was I when I wrote that? I know I write too much most of the time, but that little lot seems to be totally out of context here.
After all what do I know about Shapecraft Elans?
SFA that's all

I found this thread on another forum the other day; not a Shapecraft but perhaps an interesting car? Some of its story is contained within the thread, for instance one of the former owners bought it with the fast-back in place but modded the wheel arches.
Does anyone here know more about it? The chassis number is visible (on the VIN plate rather than self-chalked on) towards the end of the thread.

http://www.britishspeed.com/forum/showthread.php?1643-A-very-special-bodied-Lotus-Elan!

That fast-back is, imho, rather neat.

Nice to see this one will be back on the circuits this year. The last time I photographed it was in the 1970s at Oulton Park!

I saw that car at Autosport and wondered if it was genuine. Its a great looking car.

Has anyone created a Shapecraft pattern to convert a car?

I was wondering the same thing for quite some time. When you have a car like mine that could be built in so many directions because of it's lack of originality it opens many options. One I toyed with would be to build a Shapecraft replica.

This is a link to a video of a '63 corvette roadster with a removal split-window top.

I wonder if you could make something similar that duplicates the look of a shapecraft, but is removable.

?Shapecraft Elan encore?

There is an interesting article in the August edition of Classic and Sportscar. It reports that the current Shapecraft company has built a one-off Shapecraft Elan with a Superleggera-type roof frame and Zagato-like polished flush fitting windscreen and rear screen surrounds. Subject to sufficient interest, five orders at a price to be fixed, the idea would be further developed and cars constructed to original specification.

The blue one is an original Shapecraft car; I first photographed it back in the 70s when it was an old car running in what became Classic racing. Now superbly restored and driven by Mike Humphreys.
