Time to bump this one back up!

Came across this advertisement from Autosport magazine, probably about 1967, for a "real" Shapecraft, allegedly!

Ed, are you sure the white car in your picture (#42) is your car?

While browsing my magazine collection, I came across the October 1998 edition of Vintage Racecar, which has an extensive article on 26Rs.

This magazine has two pictures of the car you indicated to be yours. One picture, from St Jovite 1965, shows the white #42. The second picture, which is on the cover (in black and white),from Mosport 1967, shows this same #42, now painted in a dark color.

Both of these photos show the car to be RHD, with a separate, non blended in bumper. The first photo shows the car with large rectangular brake duct openings under the bumper, where parking lights normally are, and the car has the original 26r K/Os. The second photo shows some large holes cut in the top or the front fenders, above the wheel opening. I am guessing, but they would also appear to be for brake cooling.

Ummm.... err....... ????

Just trying to provide facts for a thread which has lacked them at times.

To quote the above mentioned mag article:

"Ultimately, it is most important that a clear history for any car claiming to be an original 26R be established."

"In the U.S., Dave Bean has maintained a list of all the 26R chassis numbers and their known histories. Cars with questionable or unclear histories should be considered suspect."

What has totally puzzled me about this thread is the confusion between a 26R and a Shapecraft.

As a lad, I was told that love makes the world go round, then Mel Brooks said it was fear, now I find it's really just confusion!
