The 26R had a fibreglass pod the headlight sat in behind the perspex cover - you can get them from Tony Thompson I believe.

Always liked the 26R look but then again always liked the pop up headlights as well !

gino -

Very nice !

I like the attention to detail - and the over all effect is very crisp -

looking forward to more progress pictures.

Just a few more photos of the resto.....
I made new wooden panels and glued in the black carpet...then the black leather parcel shelf and the roof lining..I couldn't find the original lining so I got some Alkantara and put three stitches through it to hold the rods. The local upholsterer gave me some good tips and it came out a treat with no creases. I used the holt melt glue which worked really well...Looks great.
Yesterday I decided to fit the rear windscreen in...what a day!!!
I went to my workshop with my other Elan and decided to take a photo of both.......

Hi Gino,

Looks v nice job.

I have purchased the TTR 26R light kit but not ready to fit yet

Do you have any pictures of how you fixed in the mounting plate. Did you have to cut a hole in the mounting plate in order to fix the new headlight bowl to the plate ?

Also I did not receive anything with the plastic lenses - is there a fixing kit ?

thanks in advance

regards
Chris

Hi Chris,
The TTR headlight modification is just the perspex covers and two back plates in Resin with a contour snug fit shape for each side.
These will need gluing into place. I used some fine chopped resin.
The position of the back plate is critical because it will determine the position of the headlight rim with respect to the underside of the perspex cover.
I glued it in position 3,5cm behind the top part of the original headlight aperture then cut to length ibelow n order to be able glue the plate in a vertical position.
The headlight hole needs to be traced after gluing into place.

Hi Chris,
You need to buy some thinnish aluminium plate 20mm wide x 5mm cut to length and bent to shape. You'll need to make up 8 special brackets which will require patience and time then drill and tap holes into which you will drill corresponding holes into the perspex covers. Be very careful when drilling the perspex covers ; high speed and take some of the edge off the drill bit so as it will not grab when it goes through the other side.
Four of the brackets can be screwed to the back plates but the other four will have to be glued to the underside of the bodywork.(front part) Drill some fine holes into the area where it will be glued to the underside in order to have better adhesion. Use some chopped strand.
Ciao

Rubber Petrol pipes?

I think my insurance company disallowed non fire-resistant pipes, so I now have aircraft style SS braided petrol pipes.

Hi Johan,
I've not been able to try them yet but if they reveal to be in?sufficient there's enough space to eventually modifiy to fit the 7" lights if necessary.
The ones fitted are 5 3/4".

Hi All,
Restoration finished during my Christmas holidays. A few niggly problems with the clutch due to a new faulty clutch cylinder and now i'm off to register the car.
Hope you like it..........

New project already under way : 1965 S2.
