Has anyone used the clutch push rod length as described in Brian Buckland's book with any success?
In other words without finding that the piston is blocking the valve within the master cylinder and not allowing transfer of fluid from reservoir to the cyinder?

Yes.
The measurement Brian gives is from the centre of the clevis pin hole to the back face of the button end of the rod, he gives 3.125" (79.38mm) and that's the same as my original rod. The overall length, as shown in my response to your other thread, is 82mm and that works fine in my car and gives adequate free play in the master cylinder.

That's about the same size as my original pushrod. Unfortunately I was finding gear changes rather notchy when clutch was adjusted correctly as per the workshop manual.
I found Brian's measurement and drawing very misleading which led me to fitting an adjustable rod several mm longer than your own measurement.
