secondary door seal - Elan s3

PostPost by: gentry74 » Tue Mar 28, 2023 6:26 pm

these have long since disappeared off my car.... and I didnt know they even existed until I saw this pic on the RDEnt.com website. These aren't shown in any of the parts manual diagrams. Could anyone provide a pic of this seal installed on an s3 so I can understand where it goes....? And are there two pieces per door? or does this pic just show the s3 version and the s4 version? thanks in advance

I don't have a photo of the seal in place, but this might give you an idea.

It goes on the underside of the door opening, roughly as shown here. The idea is that water runs down from the front wing/windscreen and surface tension causes it to run horizontally on the underside of the door cavity/body towards the hinge pins.

When it reaches these seals they form a drip ring and cause the water to fall away, which should drop it neatly into the channels in the top of the doors.(where it can find it's way into the door and rust the speakers  )

thanks guys. I'm gonna have to fix my search mojo. I DID a search assuming it had been discussed...but only came up with some s1 related entries and the seals looked markedly different. Thanks for the pics. That is all clear

On my Sprint and the 3 different +2, 68 70 73.
If you don't fit them and then have leaks you need to remove Door to fit them correctly.
Depends if you feel lucky

I feel lucky Alan. I assume that on both mine they were never fitted at the factory. D

I think this is the case with my s3 also. There is no evidence they ever existed

In the case of my late S3/SS, someone fitted a 1/4" square closed cell neoprene strip in the same position as the earlier cars using the aluminum and vinyl strip.
