Does anyone have detailed knowledge of the windscreen wiper and switch circuit for the S4/Sprint? The wiring diagram in the workshop manual simply shows the wiper and switch as boxes with the color coded wires between them. The description in the manual refers to the operation of a "parking switch" which gives some hints about the circuit, but I can't figure it out given the configuration of the switch.

What is you need to know about the wiper/switch circuit?

As you say the circuit includes a 'parking' switch, but is slightly
complicated by the fact that the motor has two speed and is deliberately
shorted out in the off and parked position so that it is dynamically braked.

I have a hand drawn sketch which I could scan and post unless your question
can be answered in text.

The parking switch is part of the wiper motor. There is a little round cover which can be rotated to have the switch "make" and park the wipers where you wish. It's about 1-1/2" (40mm) diameter.

The type of motor that had the rotatable parking switch was fitted to the
earlier Elans. I think that from the S3 (I'd better keep my head down now)
onwards the motor was the permanent magnet type with non adjustable
switches.

Ian,

I don't have a S4, but do have a late '69 home market +2S and it has the later round motor. To be honest, I've never had one of the later motors apart, but have the earlier ones. And I do know that my S3-SS, one of the last batch of S3's, does have the early style motor. So, I stand corrected that the S4 and later cars are not adjustable park, but I'll share my egg face with you on the S3 issue.

Roger

If the wiper motor is the same as the +2 you will find an excellent
article at www.vtr.org/maintain/wiper-motor/

Yup - ^U better, unless they found the old style in some corner when they
put mine together. Geroge with no magnets in my motor, and adjustable
park can.

What is a "lucas dealer"?? Does such a thing exist? I can just see me
trying to explain to one what I want! It takes a special talent to flick that
switch at the right instant to park the wipers!

I don't know where you hail from but not that far from me (didsbury) is a
lucas dealer(sells lucas equipment) i went there a while ago with the same
problem and came away with a new off the shelf w/w motor parking switch, also
a new set or alternator brushes.
you're now going to tell me that your w/w motor has no provision for this
switch aren't you
