Elan Power Windows (Radford)

PostPost by: ardee_selby » Sat Nov 24, 2001 2:32 pm

I seem to recall reading that "the" Jimmmy Clarks' second Elan
(Hardtop S1) was modified by Radford fairly early in 1964. Work
included power windows with a centre console to house the switches.
This appears to pre-date Lotus' design.

Does this car still exist? Anyone know what mechanism Radford used?

I seem to recall an article some years ago about a car that Jim Clark had
given to 'Jabby' Crombac (I think), which Jabby was resoring. Cant remember
what Series it was or whether it was the Radford trimmed job, though.

If anyone is seriously interested, i'll delve into the old archives...

Martin,
I raised the subject as it referred to Radfords power
windows and was interested in what mechanism was
used.(re: current posts on improving Lotus efforts.)
If article gave details might be worth it, but doubt
it somehow.

No, the article probably wouldn't include relevant detail in itself, but it
may prove that the car still exists. I recall that they were being pretty
serious about maintaining the originality, due to the historical
significance of the Jim Clark connection, to the extent that an informal
'ethics committee' had been set up to discuss the pros and cons of
replacement vs. refurbishment of individual components.
