Hello all,

I'm helping a fellow club member with his S3 S/E (45/6226) and noticed more examples
of building with the first part available. My S4 has right hand drive windscreen wipers
and his has the proper left hand drive version (wipers should park opposite from the
driver to clean the top corner in front of the driver). What really had me confused when
going around the block is that it has a right hand drive steering column! The turn
signal and Hi beam stalks are reversed which had me using "Hi beam" for "turn right"!

Don,

It was original for all Elans to have the traficator switch on the right hand side of the column. Yours may have been reversed, which would be easy to do since the switches don't care which side of the column they're mounted to. I have left mine on the right and find it ergonomically comfortable to leave my left hand always on the wheel and move my right form the wheel to the shifter to the column turn switch. I find my self reaching through the wheel with my right hand at times on other cars to operate the turn indicators with that hand.

Hello Roger,

I was surprised by what you wrote since the "stickers" on the column match the function. But when
I compared the stickers to the picture in the owner's manual I noticed that the Hi/Lo is
upside-down!
Thanks for the insight, I hadn't noticed that detail in the owner's manual (I bought it recently).

Don, that isthe way my car's column came - 45-6078. I got used to it
until NJ Motor vehicle inspector tested turn signals and failed the car.
Theswitches are easily reversed, and since every other car I have owned
is on left, I kept it that way. George
