Steering column trivia

I was over at Clay Vyzralek's shop in El Segundo this morning.

Tomo (owner of 26/0049, a very early RHD car with CA license
plate LOTUS 26, which he is lovingly restoring) was there too,
and he mentioned something very interesting that I didn't know
before, about steering columns.

Apparently cars up to S1-1/2 all had metal (Aluminum, or pot
metal? I'm really not sure!) steering column turn signal
fairings.

According to Tomo, who has become sort of a resource on interior
restoration, because of all the research he has done working on
his car, there were two styles of turn signal fairings. The early
metal one came on S1s and S1-1/2s, and the late, plastic one came
on S2s, S3s, and S4s.

Erik Berg
