Our local car registration authoroties
didnt accept my uk imported Lotus +2 for
registration yesterday because of some
damn silly things.
1) they couldnt find the chasis no stamped
into the chasis.
Did these cars have such a no stamped into
the frame. My car is fitted with a lotus
original galvanised chasis.
Can i find some documentation anywhere on the net
on this, wether it should or shouldnt be such
a no.
2) The stupid guy chose to name the foglights
as driving lights and as i couldnt find the
switches for them then he put them down as
driving lights not working - i know where the
damn switches are now and the lights work fine.
3) Even after wighing the car he wants documentation
of its weight and max allowed weight on the rear
axel.
Cheers

If the chassis is galvanised that means it has been replaced at some
time during the car's life. There is a number LR XXXX engraved on the
top flange close to the LHS engine mount, but it can be hard to see.
If they insist the number must be stamped, then find the engraved number
and any machine shop will have a set of punches to stamp the number
somewhere easily visible.
Could this be because they are always visible, and the headlights are
not? Do you have a law that requires daylight running lights?
Weight of the car will be in the workshop manual, or in published road
tests. If by weight on rear they mean via a tow-bar I would say zero --
there's nothing to support it. Otherwise tell them 75% of the car's
unladen weight.

I think what Mike meant was RHS (right hand side) unless the galvanized
chassis are stamped on the opposite side that the original chassis were.
