Mazda MX5 seats into a +2?

PostPost by: 68+2 » Tue Aug 22, 2006 7:20 am

Has anyone fitted Mazda MX5 seats into a plus 2? Are they a fairly easy
swap? I'm trying to use my '68 as an everyday car but find the seats a
little uncompromsing for longer journeys, and my wife's MX5 has nice
comfortable seats that look like they would fit. Any tips would be
welcome.

Thanks,
Dave.

Coincidentally there is a guy flogging some +2 seats on ebay at the moment
because he fitted MX5 seats so it must be possible!

Alterantively you could get hold of some later +2 seats which were much more
comfortable.

Gidday Dave,
Yes it has been done before and successfully. I have a +2 S and find the sit upon seat bloody awful. I like to sit in a seat not on it. When I put ours back on the road I will certainly be looking to MX5 or similar to really enjoy the car.
See ya, Les.

I'm thinking of using these:

http://www.gts-classics.com/seats.html

The "Nuerburgring" is also available in a reclining
version in Germany, I'd suspect that this is what
this website lists as "Monte Carlo" (at least the
numbers are the same). Maybe with a Cord inner?

However, they might probably be more expensive than
MX-5 ones from ebay.

Does anybody happen to know the height of the seat?
The BF Nuerburgring is said to have 14cm from seat
to the upper edge of the rails.

Dave

It is a great swap, works well. Gives you a head rest, tilt, and,
comfort. Several contributors to the lotuselan.net forum have done
it, and I have them in my car, the previous owner's good work.

eg check out http://www.searchsmart.co.uk/lotus/for some hints and
tips

Always a few seats on EBay, they are popular for Triumphs and
component cars as well, so a little competitive on bidding. You could
always re-cover them in vinyl for a more authentic look, such seats
have just been auctioned on EBay, look under completed items

There is also a document "MX5toPlus2_Seat.doc" in the Files section
of this list

Glenn

This begs the question: does it work with an Elan +0 ?

Cheers,
Pete (bad back)!

Glenn

Does the swap only work with the newer MX5 or do older Miata seats work
also? (When did they start calling them MX5's anyway?)
