Twin Cam Valve Spring Compressor

PostPost by: "ngiovas" » Sun Aug 20, 2006 2:52 pm

I know valve spring compressors have been discussed at length before,
but I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this type of compressor
will work for the twin cam. I was getting ready to make an adapter
for a spring compressor and I saw this one that seems to look similar
to what I was going to make.

I have attached a picture in the album titled "Nick G's Album"

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, I have used a c-clamp and cut-up piece of pipe that amazingly looks
like a crappy version of your pic! I could of used a a deeper c-clamp. I
also used a generic valve spring compressor like is sold to most USA
mechanics. Still needed my crappy piece of pipe tho.

Yup that will work. I personally prefer the type that have a lever as
opposed to just the screw since they are quicker, but one of the adapters
should fit perfectly. Snap-On used to sell plastic adapters for their clamp
type, but I couldn't find them on their web site last time I looked.

If you're headed to the Ann Arbor side of town you can stop by and borrow
mine. I've got my head back on and the engine almost all buttoned up, so
I'll probably be putting it into the car soon. I shouldn't need the
compressor for a few years (knock on wood).

No doubt the kit would do the job. Those little adaptors in that kit
look just like the one I made from two bits of rod and two washers
welded together. Took me about 10 minutes. Then you can buy or borrow
a standard spring compressor if you don't already have one. I agree
with Fred that the lever type compressor would be easier to use than the
screw type.
