WTB Series 1 cant rail socket

WTB Series 1 cant rail socket.

I need 2 of these, they mount on the windscreen frame, if anybody has
some lying around :)

I am also after the brackets that fix to the windscreen, for mounting a
tonneau cover.

Jeff,

I may have something for you. I have the remains of a S2 that was burned
in a road accident back in the early 70s. It's supplied lots of little
sundry parts over the years but since all my actual Elans are either an
early FHC or S3 DHC, what you are requesting I'd have no need for. I did
keep a few small sections of windscreen frame that weren't consumed in
the fire. I'll ook for you and see if there is anything. Of course, they
would need to be restored, but would also be cheap.

Roger

I just have to ask, WHAT in the "H" is a WTB Series 1 cant rail socket? I guess it (they) are on my stock 1600, and I assume they are on my project S2 and I guess there must be a couple (of sets?) in all the spares that are in my resto spares bin.

But as a Canuck I haven't the foggiest idea of what might be a "cant rail socket" (even tho I may have accumulated a few over the years).

I guess it is a matter of terminology. And I thought I was from an English background!

Happy Canada (Dominion) day boys.

Keep your stick on the ice Hey!

on my project S2 and I guess there must be a couple (of sets?) in all

It's the small tubular fitting that bolts to the top corners of the
windshield frame. S1 ragtops had a plastic frame that surrounded the
side windows and attached to the body behind the door, and at the top
of the windshield... The frame fits to the body using a bolt into a
bobbin, but the part that connects to the windshield has a longish rod
that fits into the cant-rail socket... clear?

This should be pretty easy to weld... if one knew how to weld ;-)

Come on over, and I'll show you mine <bg>

Well it's still not clear to me. I believe my S2 Elan has the same
parts as the S1. There is a specialized eyebolt in each upper corner
of the windhield frame. This is meant to receive a fabricated peg
assembly bolted to the front end of each cantrail, the fiberglass
surround for the side windows.

I assume the socket is the eyebolt piece. Is this correct?

Well I'll be damned! You learn something new every day.

I now know what a cant rail socket is.

I have 3 sets, the pair on the 1600 that spend the winter in the glove box when the hardtop is on the car, the pair on the project S2 and two more in the spares bin.

CANT RAIL SOCKET!

My dear old Yorkshire Grandfather would turn in his grave if he should learn of my ignorance of my mother toung.

Thank you all - I really did not know what it was called. I guess it was just a gizmo to me.

Keep your sticks on the ice.
