Yes thats him. He has done two race head conversions for me and both
were excellent work.

Hi Ben,

Yes, this is John. If I recall correctly, John White's Europa (TCSPCL)
had a McCoy head. It was the red Twink at last year's NELLI Dyno run
that broke through 100 RWHP. (Around 110 IIRC) I don't recall the
specs other than it wasn't as radical as it could have been, he was
looking for streetable power.

McCoy is mentioned a lot on the Europa group, and nobody ever seems to
have anything bad to say about his work. I don't have a TwinCam, so I
wouldn't know myself, but based on what I've heard, if I was looking
for a top-notch Weber head I'd be giving him a call. I wouldn't be
wasting energy on pursuing a used head that's probably seen its best
days unless it's original thickness, clean, and much cheaper than his
conversion.

I paid $4700 for a complete BDR motor that just needed the stock crank and
rods blueprinted. That was about 12 years ago. My drive train is stock. I
agree it is pushed and will fail soon and require new tranny and CV's in the
rear. For now it is great fun and much easier to drive (engine wise) than
my TC Europa was. When you look at the motor inside and out it looks like a
$25K motor.

The water pump used on the BD series engine depends on the block the
motor is built. Alloy blocks use both the cortina style water pump
on the older blocks (alloy or cast)and a BDT style pump on the
newer alloy blocks(Bigger impeller). The front cover is alloy while
simliar to the crossflow is not the same. They cost about 180 UKP
and are dificult to get second hand. Alloy cam carrier is 1500 USD
alloy block ~6000 USD. Valve springs $800, platforms etc $$$ cams
$800 and up, valves $34 each (x16) BDT pump 250, Lucas CE Ignition
500, Drysump? Look at racecars.com and see how much these engines
command.
I have a fully rebuilt 2.1 ltr BDG sitting in my garage that I have
$20000 it makes about 250hp on twin 48's. It ended up that I bought
a MK1 Ford escort just to use the engine. Even in mild tune a BD
engine It too powerful for an stanard elan. You will have to start
modifying a lot of other things to
stop them from breaking. Look what a 26R needs for just 170bhp. If
you desperate for a BD engine I will
sell you mine for 24K complete, but you really don't want it.
James
PS I recently sold a VGC bare second hand BDD head for $2500 (this
would be considered a good deal) but it was only a bare head.
