Converting rear springs to 2.25"

PostPost by: Briggs1 » Mon May 29, 2006 1:19 pm

I am interested in converting my Plus 2 rear struts to 2.25" springs.

I know Spyder and Bean sell kits - although I have not priced them (except
looking at Spyders site)

Is there an economical way to do the conversion by purchasing parts from
other sources?

Thanks,

Yes.there is.and it has been tested for the past 30 years.

My first Elan..now in the hands of a fellow LOONY. In 1973, I cut off the
rear perches. Then bought a black pipe expander coupling..you know the kind
that goes from 1.2 inch to 2.5 inch.female to female, (not sure on the
sizes) I bought a piece of threaded pipe.just the size to fit over the
strut. Screwed on the expander and notched it to allow me to turn it once
on the car. I slid the assembly down over the strut and then let the new
springs sit on the larger part of the epander. It was adjustable by turning
the expander coupling on the threaded pipe. Can you vision this. This has
been running on the car for years.

You have to cut the threaded pipe the right length so that it all sets up
right.but it works great.

You can buy the threaded sleeves and platforms from any good racing
parts shop e.g. Demon Tweeks
