*Do you mean the ACBC initials? Sorry, that's a big mystery that's no one
has ever been able to decipher. The founder of Lotus, Anthony Collin Bruce
Chapman, carried the answer to his grave. *

A history of the Lotus badge is here:
http://www.mikecauser.com/lotus/parts/badges.html

The history of the badge is a bit more interesting than that.

The first couple of cars produced by Lotus Engineering Company were
built by Colin Chapman and Nigel and Michael Allen. Together they
agreed that the initials on the badge should be ABCC for Allen
Brothers and Colin Chapman. (That's probably why the AB is larger
than one of the two Cs.) The Allen brothers were rather annoyed to
find out that Colin Chapman's full initials were ACBC.

The first car to get a Lotus badge was the Lotus IIIB. Adam Currie
was the first customer to buy a Lotus. But his car didn't come with a
badge. He happen to be visiting the workshop on the day the brand new
Lotus badges arrived. He was offered one of the badges in the box
which he put on his car.

BTW, I think I got the story of the CABC logo from Nigel Allen.
Feel free to add it to your page.

Peter Ross got the same story and put it into his book "Lotus The Early
Years". However the Allens cannot have looked closely at the Mark Two,
which already had a painted badge with the ACBC logo.
