Peter,
There is a US-based fellow named John Farrell that makes very nice
stainless pistons for a variety of calipers, including those on our
Elans. You can visit his web site:
http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/ ... 6/id23.htmor e-mail at ***@***.***
Nice guy to work with. First rate pistons. Best: they are quite
reasonably priced.
My 1969 S4 took the following:
part number 19-1013 fits the front calipers. Cost $26 per piston.
part number 19-1209 fits the rear calipers. Cost $22 per piston.
Farrell's web site list 19-1209 for the Lotus Elan, but doesn't
specify front or rear. Trust me, they fit the rear as exact
replacements. Also, Farrell does not show an Elan listed for 19-1013,
only Espirit and Spitfire. The 19-1013 is the correct piston (exact
replacement) - again, trust me. Lastly, his web site show "
64325703 1.685" Spitfire and Elan 62" but doesn't give his part
number. Ignore this listing.
When I asked John about his "fuzzy" part numbers, he gave me this
disclaimer "My listing is not inclusive of all car models that use
the pistons I make". Whatever the case, he has some good drawings and
the I guarantee that the part numbers I specify above fit a '69 S4.
