My car is not completely stock. It was fitted with a tr6 windshield.

Now I have purchased a stock windshield frame and am trying to fit it.

At either side of the dashboard there are what appear to be non-stock metal
plates that the po put

there to attach the tr6 frame. Does the stock windshield slide in at either
side of the dash

where these metal plates are (once they are removed) or does it go on the

outside of the fiberglass between the dash fiberglass and the door?

The S2 frame is mounted on the outside between the dash and the door, with two bolts each
side. Use the door frames to decide rake.

Of course, the S3 and S4 windscreen frames are molded as part of the body. They are not removeable, except by saw, permanently.

I'm planning ahead for removing the body off a '66 S2
(conv), snd the more stuff one removes beforehand the
better. I thought of removing seats, windshield etc.
But I noticed that after removing the bolts on either
side of the windshield, it still seemed securely
attached (stuck) to the body.
Can you guys confirm then that there should be nothing
else holding it in place? (except old paint!)

There are a series of small bolts up behind the dash along the "crimp"
or whatever that ridge of glass is called. I seem to recall there are
about seven of these small bolts still holding the windshield down.

You don't have to remove the windshield to pull the body, the windshield has a seies of small bolts thru its lower frame to the front scuttle. If you intend to restore / repaint the body pull the dash - maybe the heater - to access the windshield frame bolts.

IMHO Colin wanted the windshield to stay in place.

The heater does not have to come out to get to the bolts under the
S1/S2 windshield frame. The dash pad does get in the way though.
