Fuel Leak

On the Elan Sprint models with Strombergs, (I don't know about
Webers), there was a fuel line piece (T-shaped) that sat between the two
carbs. These things became brittle with time and vibration developed small
cracks in them not readily visible to the naked eye. Pressurise the system
with fuel, however, and one was treated to a fine spray spilling all down
that side of the engine, not to mention the distributor below.
Twelve years ago, or thereabouts, I warned a brand new owner of a
Sprint in Middletown, Ohio about this auto-conflagration feature and
advised him not to drive his Elan until he replaced the piece. He followed
my advice - and discovered quite an aerosol of gas emanating from between
the two carbs. . .
If this represents hopelessly common knowledge - nevermind.
