Solex Carbs on Elan

PostPost by: brice48 » Sun Nov 06, 2005 2:19 pm

Given the prices Webers are fetching, I just picked up a pair of Solex
sidedrafts off an Alfa and hope to use them on an Elan. Anybody out
there have any experience doing this? If so, info re jetting and other
mods would be appreciated. Thanks... Brice

jetting for a 1600 alfa should be in the ballpark, they would be fitted
with 28 or 30mm chokes as the 32mm chokes were used in the 1750 and
2000.

with 30mm chokes something like 125 main 140 air and 45 idle
with 32mm chokes probably 130-135 main 140 air and 47 idle
ought to be fairly close for sea level

tell me what's in what you have and i may be able
to figure oe alfa application

cheers,
scott

Brice,

Are you sure they are the same pattern as DCOE Webers? The earlier sand cast Webers (DCO type) have the throats closer together and the top bolt holesare directly above the bottom ones, rather than the DCOE pattern of the top bolts are farther apart than the bottom ones. Old Alfa 1300s used these carbs and they are not compatable w/ DCOE pattern. So make sure your Solex carbs are same pattern as DCOE.

My Solex 40 ADDHE carbs are off an Alfa 1750 and have the same
mounting geometry as the 40 mm Webers; they mount perfectly to an
Elan manifold.

Thanks to Scott Potter for addressing the jetting question.
