My Elan and Hurricane Wilma

Hurricane Wilma just hit our house in Miami with 120+ mph winds. Not
having a garage, I pointed my Elan into the wind (under the canvas
carport), and hoped for the best. Well she made it through unscathed,
not even a scratch. Meanwhile, I lost 5 palm trees and half of my roof
shingles. (Out of commission while I replace the wiring harness, I
think she thought she was back on the road again... scenery just flying
by.) Smiles all around.

Gary,

I'm disappointed in you. Did you not realize that, pointed into the wind,
you had a natural wind tunnel? I (and I expect the rest of the List) would
have been out there with 700+ tufts of wool and scotch tape (video camera
runnning) to determine specific areas of the Elan body that could benefit
from some aero tweaking.

Kidding aside, its probably more important that you are OK - Elans aren't as
hard to repair.

Cheers,

Bill, thanks for the heads-up... hurricane season still has a month to
go. I'm going out to buy a smoke wand today...

Gary,

Thanks for the smiles. You can always plant new palm trees, but an Elan gone with the wind would be a sad story.

That proves the Elan has better aerodynamics than a house or palm tree! I
would have been afraid of front end lift at 120 mph.
