Chassis Alignment

I have my chassis stripped of all components & want to check it for
alignment relative to the dimensions in the manual. Since I don't have
a flat layout plate to mount the chassis on does anyone have any ideas
on how to check it dimensionally. I have thought of using levels &
plumb bobs but was wondering if anyone had any better & easier to use
technique.

I was lucky enough to have a friendly body shop where my wife had
accumulated frequent fender bender points. He checked it and "adjusted" it
as needed on his alignment bench. He did it for free! With a bare chassis
it is really simple for a body shop to do. If you chat up a few of them you
might get someone to do it quite cheaply. I was able to stuff the whole +2
chassis in the back of a 1980 Honda Accord hatchback to get it to shop and
back; that is a site in itself!
