I just bought an S3 baby dhc elan for $13.5K. It is a driver, good shape,
decent, not perfect 10 footer paint job, very good runner.

I bought my 26R replica for $18k with all Tony Thompson mods, running and
pretty much ready to race -- (needed better sump and some safety equipment).

A 1970 plus 2 just sold on ebay for $18k. It was a one owner car, but it
used a quart every 300 miles and the interior was "custom" -- silver and
black. Hmmmm?

A 1969 plus 2 that looked tatty just sold for $12K on ebay. Hmmm?

A 1969 elan dhc s4 that looked beautiful also just sold on ebay for $12K.
Sheesh.

Look at the 1970 S4 dhc on Chequered flag that won't sell at $19K.

I would not underestimate the value of rarity.

Look at Alfa Giulia Supers which are getting more than GTV's.

Guys a shill, unless you believe he is buying astons and old mgs and the like, in the last month. Never bid on ebay prior to the last 15 seconds.Checkhis feedback history

What happens is various dealers have various other dealers or employees bidon auctions to crank up the value, hoping to make a real score. Look at all the bids on this car above 8k, this guy and a zero feedback new member, uhh, yeah

Have yet to see a confirmed transaction price over 10k for a +2

You think its a scam? I am not sure. Maybe the $18k one is high. I
sold my plus two this year locally to a friend for $8K and it was
appraised at $12K. I think $12k for a decent one is right in line. I
think that baby elans should go for more, but they have been selling
cheap. Does anyone know the guy who bought the plus two for $18K.

Another plus two racer sold on race-cars.com for $11,500. That was a
good deal. It was a nice little car.

66-73 Elans are on their way up finally.

There have been a few over the past months that have sold for much more than
20K..

On the other hand.I have not seen that same increase in Plus 2's. I think
8K for a nice Plus 2 is right on the market.

i don't think it is a matter of rarity, it wasn't too long ago a
correct and pristine elan was bringing 20k so a lot of folks started
looking at the lesser examples as they've been overlooked by the
collectors and ordinary folk can afford them. +2s are still bargain
priced compared with the early elan. in my opinion it is just a matter
of time before we see nice +2's regularly bringing 10k+

really nice Supers will bring 10k but good drivers can be had for much
less, truth is they are a lot more practical than a GTV and perhaps
that is another reason folks are looking at the +2

i'm inclined to think a zetec powered +2 with A/C would be a sweet
second car and justifiable to SWMBO with the jump seats.

me, i'm too damn tall to fit in a baby elan and yeah i can drive a
europa if i take the seat out so a +2 fits me just fine ;)

as for colours and originality; sure the original colour makes a
positive difference at resale time, the exact shade isn't as important
as the buyer usually will be wanting something that looks right but
colour changes do have an effect on the ultimate value since my federal
+2 has a tag saying red it should be so but i may well do it in a
colour i prefer as i'll be keeping mine a long time.

naturally a weber inducted twink would be desirable but a zetec or twin
cam toyota (detuned atlantic engine anyone?) might be a bit more
livable but the ultimate for me would be a BDR, hart or similar

cheers,
scott

If you think this one guy has spent a quarter million on cars in the last 2months, then, no it isn't a scam, read his feedback, look at the auctions.

I am not sure. Maybe the $18k one is high. I

Hey, I think it is in line too, but it has not happened to my knowledge, I would love +2's to be worth more, but they aren't. Prices haven't moved in a decade.

i disagree. 10 years ago a complete project +2 would trade for
$500-1000, today they are bringing $2500+ . nice ones would be $2500
and are now twice that and more. this from private parties, get a
dealer involved and it goes up
cheers,
Scott

Hey, I paid 5200 bucks for my fairly nice +2 in 1984, so I am not seeing much increase there. Project cars are what the buyer will bear, there are still 1000 dollar +2s' around, and since an engine would gladly sell for at least 500 bucks, anyone selling a whole car for that in the last 20 years is a fool.

Show me the unrelated buyer and seller who happily exchanged 10k US for a +2 and I will buy them both a beer

Like I said, were it wasn't so, but it is, and I didn't get into it for theinvestment
